Application to the Foundation for the grant was based on outreach efforts to community partners committed to Disease Prevention and Healthy Behaviors by increasing access to opportunities to physical activity and healthy food options. The ultimate goal is to build a stronger and healthier County and create a sense of pride regarding healthy behaviors such as physical fitness, wellness programs and nutritional eating habits. Work in this arena is already underway through robust programs and activities offered through the Surry Cooperative Extension Office and Surry Parks & Recreation and this grant opportunity provides a pathway to build upon the momentum to reach all sectors of the County.
