Come see improvements to the Grays Creek Marina to include public access to a renovated boat launch site, a new fishing pier, and floating docks for small recreational boaters. Other components include the fueling station, bathhouse and restroom facilities and four spacious bedrooms above the restaurant with beautiful views of the creek and marshes. Revenue will be generated mainly through rental of boat slips managed by Surry Seafood Company.
The Grays Creek Marina project was a multi-year project aimed to vastly improve deteriorated marina facilities. The near 19 acre property has direct access to the James River providing waterfront access for public use. Recreational activities at the Marina draws together the boater, tourists, local and regional residents and the business community. The vast improvements of the visual characteristics promote river based economic development and create a new destination waterfront amenity.
The ultimate vision is to link to Eco Tourism trails associated with the James River Association and the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. The site is mostly natural and minimally disturbed which supports the goals of offering nature trails, discovery and observation opportunities. Such opportunities exist with Rails to Trails Grant opportunities which are being pursued by the County.
